Amber's Hair Re-growth Solution
This is a prescription medication with a unique formulation that generates new hair
growth more effectively by using a combination of different drugs through synergistic
modes of action (described below). The lotion should be applied morning and
night for 2 to 4 months for evidences of new growth to show, and up to 6 months
to get proper results. It must be continually used to be effective. Results will vary
depending on individuals. Once treatment is discontinued, hair condition will return to
its original state in about 3 months.
- Minoxidil works by gradually enlarging and lengthening hair follicles that may
have been gradually shrinking.
- Azelaic acid is a potent inhibitor of 5-alpha-reductase and this reduces the
formation of dihydrotestosterone.
- Arginine increases nitric oxide production which is used by the hair follicle to
maintain and promote new hair growth.
More potent mixtures are available and may be added to the combination:
- Tretinoin has been shown to increase cell turnover thus increasing the rate of
hair growth. It also increases the absorption of Minoxidil making it even more
effective, allowing the hair to grow faster.
Note: Tretinoin may increase sensitivity to sunlight so extended periods of
sun exposure should be avoided. If sensitivity to light is a problem it may be
overcome by using this preparation at night while the preparation mentioned
above can be used for the morning applications.
- Spironolactone lotions are also available. It is an anti-androgen which binds
to androgen receptors in the scalp thus preventing testosterone and DHT from
binding to their receptors. In addition it also reduces the production of DHT
from testosterone thus effectively treating the cause of hair loss. (Due to the
chemical nature of spironolactone, we recommend using spironolactone hair
lotion which contains a single drug entity on its own rather than incoporating
other ingredients such as minoxidil, which may affect the chemical stability
of lotion. However, when both lotions are used together no such problem
occurs.)
- Progesterone also inhibits 5-alpha-reductase and may be used in the hair
lotion for extra effects.

Other ingredients which have been shown to be useful in the treatment of hair loss
include:
- Topical immunotherapy compounds with diphenylcyclopropenone
and squaric acid dibutylester
- Zinc
- Pyridoxine
- Selenium and others.
